From October 29 to 30, 2025, the Sub-forum on Forest Policy of the Second Pu'er Forum on Asia-Pacific Forests was successfully held at the APFNet Pu'er Base. Under the theme “Promoting Sustainable Forest Management: Policy Innovation and Economic Synergy,” the forum brought together government officials, experts, and representatives from multiple economies across the Asia-Pacific region. Through various formats such as keynote speeches, thematic discussions, and field visits, participants engaged in in-depth exchanges on innovative policy tools and market mechanisms. The discussions aimed to synergize ecological forest conservation with regional economic development, exploring effective pathways for sustainable forest management in the region.

Participants shared policy innovations and practical experiences in areas such as policy frameworks for forest landscape restoration, synergies between forest multi-functionality and food security, forest governance reforms under national sustainable development plans, and economic coordination through carbon finance and eco-product value chains. A follow-up thematic discussion focused on “How to Balance Policy Conflicts Between Economic Development and Forest Ecological Conservation”, during which participants reached important consensus on promoting regional collaborative development.

Participating delegates also shared their insights and experiences in policy tool innovation, ecological restoration practices, and green economic transformation. Through a dedicated industry-academia-research dialogue session titled “How Academic Outcomes Can Mutually Empower Forest Planning Policies and Economic Development,” they further fostered the in-depth integration of theory and practice.
The successful hosting of this sub-forum provided an efficient platform for dialogue and cooperation in forest policy planning among Asia-Pacific economies. The consensus and recommendations reached during the event are expected to further enhance regional forest policy coordination, promote the transition to a green economy, and solidify the region’s commitment to integrating forest conservation with sustainable development.
