Indonesian Delegation Visited the APFNet Secretariat for Cooperation

On 6 December 2010, an Indonesian delegation headed by Mr. Djoko Winarno, Deputy Director-General of the Directorate General of Watershed Management and Social Forestry Development, Ministry of Forestry, visited the APFNet Secretariat to discuss on a close cooperation with APFNet.

Mr. Lu De, Deputy Director-General of the APFNet Secretariat, welcomed the delegation and briefed progress achieved in 2010, including institutional development and pilot projects recently launched in Viet Nam and Nepal. While emphasizing the importance of Indonesia to regional forestry and economic development, he expressed the willingness to co-work with Indonesia in a needs-driven and unconditional manner, so as to contribute to the achievement of the aspirational goal of increasing forest cover in the region by 20million ha by 2020.

Then the Indonesian forest rehabilitation programme 2010-2014 and focusing activities were introduced. The delegation voiced its continuous support for the development of APFNet, including the steering committee, and hoped to jointly implement pilot projects in the fields of forest rehabilitation, social forestry and watershed management.

At the end of the meeting, the Indonesian delegates accepted the invitation to attend the 2nd Preparatory Meeting of Establishing the APFNet Steering Committee in January 2011 in New York and confirmed the project application would be made in due course.
