Training and education packages developed to promote implementation of the FMPs.
The project significantly enhanced sustainable forest management practices in Fiji, Tonga, and Niue by strengthening regulatory frameworks, capacity building, and community engagement. FMPs were developed and finalized for Tonga and Niue, providing a strategic approach to sustainable forestry. In addition, the project reviewed and improved legal and policy frameworks to support effective implementation and enforcement.
Capacity building was a key component, with training programs and workshops conducted to educate forestry officers, landowners, and other stakeholders. These initiatives improved understanding and implementation of FMPs and codes of forest practices. A train-the-trainer model was introduced to ensure long-term sustainability of knowledge transfer.
The project also introduced mechanisms for monitoring and reporting on sustainable forestry practices. New enforcement strategies were established, and forestry officers were trained to uphold regulations effectively. This strengthened institutional oversight and compliance with forest management policies.
