Goal

The study aimed to refine field-based forest carbon stock accounting methodologies and provide precise, stand-level forest resource data for Wangyedian Forest Farm.

Objectives

Complete the forest resources investigation of Wangyedian Forest Farm.

Estimate forest vegetation carbon storage and analyze forest carbon sink potential based on forest resource subclass survey data.

Develop a multi-functional forest management plan for Wangyedian Forest Farm.

Expected outputs

Comprehensive forest resources inventory data for Wangyedian Forest Farm.

Quantified forest carbon stock and carbon carrying capacity of Wangyedian's forests.

Multifunctional forest management plan developed with carbon sequestration as a core objective alongside biodiversity conservation and economic benefits.

Impacts and Outcomes

The project successfully quantified Wangyedian’s forest carbon stock, providing a solid foundation for carbon sink potential analysis and future carbon trading opportunities. By integrating growth model-based projections, the study estimated carbon carrying capacity under different management scenarios, helping to optimize sustainable forestry practices. The findings have been incorporated into Wangyedian's forest management plan, ensuring that carbon sequestration is a core objective alongside biodiversity conservation and economic benefits. The results of this project have potentials to contribute to China’s 2060 carbon neutrality goal and demonstrate the role of state-owned forest farms in climate change mitigation and providing a replicable model for carbon-focused forest management in northern China.
