In 2007, leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) agreed to set an 

aspirational goal of increasing forest cover in the region, by at least 20 million hectares of all types of forests by 2020. APFNet,  in collaboration with FAO, completed an assessment in 2015 after nine months of extensive data collection, analysis and consultation. 


Promoting and accelerating forest and landscape restoration to enhance ecological functioning and human well-being  in degraded and deforested landscapes of the Asia-Pacific region.

In September 2011, China hosted the First APEC Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Forestry in Beijing, China to advance region-wide cooperation in the sector. This document was produced as a reference paper for the ministerial discussions. It includes an overview of forest resources and products, progress made so far towards sustainable forest management, and priorities and outlook for the future for the APEC region
